Fire in Greater Kailash-I flat, Samalkha jhuggi cluster; no casualty
New Delhi: Two separate fire incidents took place in different parts of the city on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in either incident.
In the first incident, a fire broke out in a residential flat located in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash-I during the afternoon hours.
According to DFS officials, a call regarding the blaze was received at around 11.35am, after which nine fire tenders and nearly 54 fire personnel were rushed to the spot. The fire had erupted on the fourth and top floor of the residential building.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 1.10 pm, and cooling operations were completed by 1.30 pm.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit in an air conditioner. However, officials said that the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. Household items and combustible materials inside the flat are believed to have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a cluster of jhuggis in southwest Delhi’s Samalkha village.
DFS received information about the blaze at around 1.25 pm, after which seven fire tenders carrying 42 fire personnel were deployed to the location. The fire was extinguished by 2.20 pm. An investigation is underway to determine the source of the fire.
