Ghaziabad: Four kanwariyas, including a couple, were injured after their bikes collided with each other in the Madhuban Bapudham area. None of them is in serious condition. At the time of the incident, they were headed to Haridwar to get 'holy water' from the Ganga river.
Gajendra Singh (34) and his wife Puja (32), were on a Splendor bike. The other two Kanwariyas are Hariom(44), a resident of Rewari, Haryana, and his nephew Manoj (30).
ACP (Kavi Nagar) Abhishek Srivastava said that a police team immediately reached the spot of the incident that occurred around 2am on Wednesday. “We took them to a nearby hospital where their treatment is underway. All of them are in a stable condition now,” he added.
“Singh was driving the Splendor bike, and Puja was on the pillion. Hariom was driving another bike with his nephew. Hariom was riding at 70km/h when he lost control and hit the Splendor bike from behind. They fell on the road and received injuries. The couple was severely injured, and both are under medical observation. We have not received any complaint in the matter yet,” the ACP said.
In 2023, during Kanwar, over 12 Kanwar yatris died in road accidents in Ghaziabad, most of them on DME. On July 26, four Kanwar yatris from Delhi died in two separate accidents when their bikes crashed into dividers on the Delhi-Meerut expressway.
