PANAJI: Candidates supported by the ruling
BJP’s students cell were declared elected unopposed to the executive committee of the Goa University’s students council for the year 2014-15.
Dasha Days was elected chairperson of the council while Tanmay Bakhle was elected general secretary. Hina Hemant Golatkar is the lady representative, while Saidatt Tendulkar, Siddhesh Naik, Vasudev Gawde, Keval Naik,Vijay Toraskar and Gaurav Naik are members of the executive committee.
The election was held peacefully in the varsity’s campus in the first half of Tuesday. The second candidate for the chairperson’s post was declared disqualified, enabling Days to be elected unopposed.
Head of the department of Biotechnology, Sanjiv Ghadi acted as the election officer.
A rally was later taken out by the winning panel from the university at Taleigao to the state BJP headquarters in the heart of Panaji.
“We are planning to demand a decrease in attendance needed to answer exams and more buses in the university. We also have intentions of demanding ladies buses for colleges and the university to tackle the issue of sexual harassment while travelling,” said Days who is pursuing M.Com at the varsity.
The elections were conducted by the students welfare and cultural affairs directorate of the university.
