CM aims for 100% insurance coverage for Goans by Jan 15
Panaji: With accidental deaths on the rise in Goa, state govt has made a renewed push for all adults to be insured across the state. Chief minister Pramod Sawant urged Goans to take advantage of the PM Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and Suraksha Bima Yojana.
Goa govt has set a target to get every Goan enrolled under at least one of these schemes by Jan 15.
“We see that everyday accidental deaths are increasing. Even after natural deaths we leave behind a family that needs support. An average person cannot pay monthly premiums of Rs 500 for life insurance. The PM wants everyone to be insured,” said Sawant.
The premium for the PM Jeevan Jyoti Yojana is Rs 436 per year offers risk cover of Rs 2 lakh on death, while the PM Suraksha Bima Yojna offers risk cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of a death due to accident, and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability. Anyone above the age of 18 and with a bank account or post office account can apply for the two insurance schemes. “Goa has achieved its annual target but achieving the target is not enough. We need 100% coverage and that is why the Goa CSR authority has launched this campaign,” said Sawant.
The 15-day campaign across North Goa and South Goa is backed by the Goa CSR authority and a private firm. Vijay Saxena, director of the directorate of planning, statistics and evaluation said, the insurance schemes have minimal instalments, affordable by most.
