Konkani to be compulsory for postman vacancies: CM
Porvorim: Konkani language will be made compulsory for the recruitment of postmen in Goa, said chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday. Sawant mentioned that the department of posts is expected to issue a circular in the coming days, making oral fluency in Konkani mandatory.
“In future, when the advertisement for postmen in the Goa circle is announced, it will specify that the Konkani language is compulsory,” said Sawant. “He should know oral Konkani.”
The chief minister stated that the department of posts fills vacancies based on merit in the SSC exam.
“The problem is that the postmen are appointed on merit, and when the overall marks are considered, Goans who score more than 60% will not apply for the post of a postman, but students from Maharashtra who score 60% and more will apply, and they get the jobs,” he said.
