10-yr-old boy’s murder: Mom, partner sent to cop custody

Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metro) chief judicial magistrate on Monday remanded a woman and her companion, who are accused of murdering her 10-year-old son in Basistha area and concealing the body in a trolley bag, in police custody.Police arrestedDipali Rajbongshi and her partner Jitumoni Haloion Sunday. The court granted a five-day police remand for Jitumoni and three days for Dipali.In a Monday media briefing, Guwahati (East) Division DCP Mrinal Deka said, "Jitumani had killed 10-year-old Mrinmoy Barman by choking him, and had mutilated the body before hiding it in Basistha area of the city, near to the temple. Haloi had led us to where the body was hidden, and he confessed to us. Upon further investigation, we found that even the child's mother was involved as well.They were produced in the court, and we will carry out the necessary investigations accordingly."The case emerged on Sunday when a scrap collector discovered the remains. Officials said Rajbongshi had registered a missing person's report at Dispur PS on Saturday when her child didn't return from tuition. The police noticed inconsistencies in her account, raising suspicion.During Haloi's court appearance, the deceased child's father, Bikash Barman, attacked him in an outburst of anger. Officials said Dipali, employed at a clinic, had initiated divorce proceedings from her husband while maintaining a relationship with Haloi, who worked as a peon in a govt office.The CID and forensic experts have initiated investigation. They have gathered evidence from the incident location for analysis. The child's body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday for post mortem.
