68 in fray for Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections on Apr 21
Aizawl: A total 68 candidates are in the fray to contest the upcoming election to the 19-ward Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) as none of the candidates withdraw their nominations on Monday, the last date for withdrawal of candidature, Mizoram’s state election commissioner H Lalthlangliana said.All the nomination papers of the 68 nominees were found to be valid in the scrutiny conducted on Friday, Lalthlangliana saidPolling for the capital city’s civic polls will be held on April 21, he said.

While the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) field candidates in all the 19 AMC wards, BJP fields candidates only in 11 wards.There are no independent candidates.Out of 19 wards, 6 wards are reserved for women but 7 women (3 each from ZPM and MPCC and one from MNF) are contesting the general seats.
