CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a campaign meeting in Baksa on Saturday that his govt has adopted a policy where interviewees from such families will be given 10 marks extra for state govt jobs. He said interviews for 50,000 posts will be held in Assam this year.

“We will give 50,000 new appointments this year. This time, we will give priority to those families where not even a single person has a job. We have undertaken a special policy so that two to three jobs do not go to one family. Applicants from those families, which do not have jobs, will get 10 marks extra during the interview for state govt jobs,” said Sarma. He said this year, the state govt has completed recruitment of one lakh youths without any irregularities.

“There should be minimum one job in every family and that’s why these 10 extra marks,” Sarma said, adding, this policy will be implemented in the recruitment of police personnel and forest department staff as well. Still, for those who do not get jobs, there will be Atmanirbhar Asom scheme under which unemployed youths will get Rs 2 lakh (Rs 1 lakh will be subsidy). “Small business can be started with this sum of Rs 2 lakh,” the CM added.

In Baksa, Sarma addressed a poll rally, seeking votes for United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, Joyanta Basumatary. BJP is contesting this Lok Sabha election in Assam in alliance with two regional parties — UPPL and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

Sarma said the tenure of Congress was marred by scams in recruitments and the tenure of BPF in Bodoland Territorial Council was not an exception. “Without paying bribe, it was almost impossible to get jobs during the Congress’s tenure in the state. Even Anganwadi job aspirants had to pay money,” he alleged. Under the BJP-led govt, he said candidates from poor and middle class families have benefited the most.

Kokrajhar seat falls in Bodoland Territorial Region, where the third Bodo Peace Accord signed on January 27, 2020, has been a milestone of the BJP-led govt. All factions of NDFB, a militant outfit came, to the mainstream with the signing of the Accord. “There is no violence, protest, and agitation in BTR now. It has transformed into a peaceful region under PM Narendra Modi. Every vote to UPPL will go to Modi,” said Sarma.
