Owaisi, Ajmal to address 9 joint rallies across 11 constiteuncies in 2 days
Guwahati: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal will jointly address nine public rallies across 11 constituencies over two days.
The duo are scheduled to hold five rallies for the AIUDF candidates of Paka Betbari constituency in Barpeta district, Dalgaon in Darrang district, Dhing and Lahorighat in Morigaon, Rupahihat and Samaguri in Nagaon, and Binnakandi in Hojai.
A three-time Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, Ajmal is contesting from Binnakandi constituency, which was created during the delimitation in 2023 by dissolving the erstwhile Jamunamukh constituency. Binnakandi is a minority-majority constituency with around 98% minority votes.
Ajmal is contesting against BJP’s key ally Asom Gana Parishad’s candidate Sahabuddin Mazumdar and Opposition alliance’s key partner Assam Jatiya Parishad’s candidate Rejaul Karim Chowdhury.
On Friday, Owaisi and Ajmal will hold campaign rallies for candidates of Goalpara East, Dhubri, Chenga and Mandia constituencies.
The joint campaign rallies are expected to significantly bolster the party’s electoral prospects. The AIMIM chief’s visit is aimed at consolidating minority votes in the constituencies where the party has fielded candidates, especially where the AIUDF has traditionally held sway, party sources said.
Talking about Owaisi’s visit to the state, Ajmal said, “There have been talks regarding the matter with Owaisi and me for a long time. We have an old relationship as well. Now, my son Abdul Rahman Ajmal formally met him at his residence and held a discussion seeking his support in this election. He also talked to me. After the talks, he agreed to extend support to AIUDF and visit the state for campaigns.”
