Guwahati: Utpal Datta, a prominent figure in Assam's film landscape — known as a film critic, author, and filmmaker — was declared the winner of the "Best Film Critic" award by the jury of the 71st National Film Awards for the year 2023 on Friday.
In the non-feature film category, Shilpika Bordoloi's "Mau: The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw (Mizo)" won the award for Best Debut Film of a Director.
In the feature film section, "Rongatapu 1982", directed by Adityam Saikia, was named the Best Assamese Film.
Under the category of films in languages not listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Dominic Megam Sangma's "Rimdogittanga" won Best Garo Film, while Prabal Khaund's "Pai Tang: Step of Hope" was declared the Best Tai Phake Film.
