Davanagere GPS cross 100% tax collection mark in record year
Davanagere: The grama panchayats in Davanagere district achieved 100.5% in revenue collection for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which is the record collection in history. Out of the 194 GPs in the district, 120 GPs have shown progress in tax collection of more than 100%.On March 31, Rs 1 crore was collected in a single day, with 6,232 transactions recorded on the Panchatantra 2.0 software. The ‘Morning Walk Towards the Village' campaign initiated by ZP CEO Gitte Madhav Vitthalrao in the district is the main reason for the achievement.Vitthalrao said the current year's revenue demand for the 2025-26 tax collection was Rs 31.49 crore, and, by collecting Rs 31.64 crore, an achievement of 100.50% was made. The ‘Morning Walk Towards the Village' campaign initiated in the district is the main reason for this achievement. In this campaign, panchayat officials and staff visited every house in the GP area daily from 6am to raise awareness about tax payment, village development, and strengthening local bodies. "By engaging in direct dialogue with the public, explaining the necessity and benefits of tax payment, and organising a revenue collection campaign every month, a significant increase in tax collection has been achieved," he informed.
"The collection rate, which was 70.4% at the beginning of March, exceeded 100% by the end of March due to the campaign. In March alone, Rs 7.5 crore was collected," the CEO said. "I would like to congratulate all the public who worked hard for this unprecedented achievement, all taluk nodal officers, TP EOs, assistant directors (panchayat raj), PDOs, secretaries, SDAs, tax collectors, all GP staff, and members of the self-help women's group," he said.In the district, Channagiri taluk's Rudrapura GP achieved the first position with a progress of 170%, and Jagalur taluk's Anaburu GP is in second place with a progress of 157.5%. On March 31, Rs 1,06,70,650 was collected in a single day, with 6,232 transactions recorded in the Panchatantra 2.0 software, officials confirmed.He said, "In the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year, a 5% discount will be available if the public pays their taxes. The public should take advantage of this."
