From savings to success: Gruha Lakshmi funds turn into roti venture
Koppal: Three women from Kushtagi town in the district have turned savings from the state govt’s Gruha Lakshmi scheme into a self-employment venture by launching a roti-making unit named Gruha Lakshmi Roti Centre.
Maktumbi Koppad, Sajanabi Dadibayi and Husenabi Kammar pooled the monthly Rs 2,000 assistance received under the scheme and used their savings to set up the business.
Using the amount accumulated from 29 instalments — totalling Rs 58,000 each — along with their personal contributions, the trio invested over Rs 2 lakh to purchase a roti-making machine from Hubballi and launch the enterprise.
The women said the unit was started with the aim of supplying rotis to hotels, dhabas, eateries and functions in and around Kushtagi town. “We are hopeful of succeeding in this business and earning a steady income,” they said.
The Gruha Lakshmi Roti Centre was recently inaugurated by Tungabhadra CADA chairman Hasan Sab Dotihal, Congress youth leader Doddabasangouda Bayyapur, guarantee implementation committee president Farooq Dalayat, committee members and officials of the women and child development department.
Hasan Sab Dotihal said the Gruha Lakshmi scheme had helped improve women’s confidence and strengthen the financial condition of families, describing the initiative as commendable.
Farooq Dalayat said several beneficiaries of the scheme had used the financial assistance to start small businesses, including garment shops and tailoring units. “The collective effort by these three women to establish a business venture will inspire others and strengthen women’s self-confidence,” he said.
