IPL betting loss drives man to die by suicide

Kalaburagi: A 40-year-old man died by suicide by drowning in Bennethora backwater near Nagur village in Kamalapur taluk in Kalaburagi district here on Thursday. The deceased is Chandrakath Madhavarao Desai of Rummagud in Kalagi taluk in Kalaburagi district. He was reportedly depressed after losing huge money in IPL betting. On Thursday evening, he came to the backwater of Bennethora River, kept his bike and cellphone on the river bank, and jumped into waters, said police sources. Bystanders who saw him jumping into the river informed the police, who retrieved the body in the evening. Mahagaum police, after visited the crime scene, are investigating the case.
