MGNREGA worker dies in Raichur as mercury tops 41°C

Pic: Hussainappa MadivalarRaichur: A 45-year-old MGNREGA worker died after succumbing to extreme heat as temperatures continued to soar across Raichur district, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave.The deceased, Huseinappa Madivalar, a resident of Yapaladinni village, collapsed while returning home after completing his work. He was rushed to a hospital but died on the way, officials said.Raichur has been reeling under severe heat conditions over the past few days, with temperatures crossing 41°C. The scorching heat has disrupted normal life, with roads largely deserted during afternoon hours. Residents are struggling under the blazing sun, while animals and birds are also facing distress amid water scarcity.With temperatures continuing to rise, the district health department has issued an advisory urging people to take precautions. Residents have been asked to drink adequate water, avoid venturing out during peak afternoon hours, wear light cotton clothing, and shield their head and eyes from direct sunlight.The department has also advised dietary precautions, keeping homes cool, and remaining alert to heatstroke symptoms such as headache, dizziness, extreme fatigue, vomiting and breathing difficulties. People experiencing such symptoms have been advised to rest in a cool place and seek medical help immediately.Elderly persons, children and pregnant women have been urged to take special care. Authorities have also stressed avoiding unnecessary outdoor movement and ensuring shade and drinking water facilities for those engaged in outdoor work, including MGNREGA labourers.
