Rowdy-sheeter’s presence at police peace meet sparks outrage in B’gavi
Belagavi: A video showing a history-sheeter addressing a peace committee meeting organised by Khanapur police has gone viral on social media, raising serious concerns over police protocol. The meeting, held recently to maintain harmony during the celebrations of Basava, Shivaji and Ambedkar Jayantis, reportedly included the rowdy-sheeter at the invitation of police. According to local sources, he not only attended but was also permitted to address the gathering. It is further alleged that he is a regular participant in such meetings.Police records reveal that a rowdy sheet was opened against him nearly a decade ago for allegedly spreading communal hatred and involvement in multiple criminal activities. He was previously linked to the Sri Ram Sene led by Pramod Mutalik and later joined the BJP, where he is said to be an active worker. The incident has triggered public debate, with many questioning the appropriateness of allowing individuals with criminal backgrounds to take part in official peace-building forums.Responding to media queries, SP Ramarajan K stated that, in some cases, individuals who lead local organisations — such as Ganapati mandals — are invited in a representative capacity, irrespective of their background."However, in the Khanapur case, I will examine the matter in detail and take appropriate action based on the findings," he said.
