Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll to begin in twin cities
Dharwad: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll for 2026 has commenced in the areas falling under assembly constituencies 72, 73, and 74 within the limits of the Hubballi–Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).According to HDMC commissioner Rudresh Ghali, the revision is being carried out following the directions of the Election Commission of India. The process aims to map the present electoral roll with the 2002 electoral roll to verify and update voter details. As part of the preparatory work, voters aged 40 years and above in 2025 are being mapped with their names in the 2002 voter list. The Election Commission has directed officials to identify such voters and link them with their family members through a mapping and progeny (linking) process to complete the verification."Although booth level officers (BLOs) have been conducting door-to-door surveys to carry out the mapping exercise, the progress has not reached the expected level. Therefore, voters within the HDMC limits should cooperate with officials," the commissioner said."Voters are requested to verify whether their names and the names of their family members in the current electoral roll have been mapped with the 2002 voter list by contacting their respective BLOs. If the mapping has not been completed, they should provide the necessary details from the 2002 voter list to the BLOs to facilitate the process," he said. The commissioner also stated that voters who are not mapped may face deletion from the electoral roll or may be subjected to further verification as per the Election Commission's directions and voter registration rules.BLOs are currently conducting house-to-house verification in their respective polling areas. Citizens are advised to check whether their names and their family members' names are correctly included in the voter list. If members of the same family are listed in different polling stations, different areas, or with incorrect details, they should submit Form-8 along with relevant documents to correct the information and ensure that all family members are listed under the same polling station. In case any voter in the family has passed away, relatives should submit the death certificate and fill Form-7 through the BLO to remove the deceased person's name from the electoral roll. For further information, citizens may contact their respective BLOs or visit the assembly constituency election office.
