Kalaburagi: Mahammed Irfan, 40, former president of Truck Owners' Association and president of Bhai Bhai Group, was brutally murdered in Wadi town, Chitapur taluk, on Monday in broad daylight, around 2.45pm.
Miscreants hit him with a car when he was riding a two-wheeler at Balram Chowk. As he fell down and tried to escape, they opened fire at him and later stabbed him to death with deadly weapons. As they tried to escape, their car lost control and fell into a roadside pit. They fled from the scene in another car.
North Eastern Range DIG Shantanu Sinha, Kalaburagi SP Addooru Srinivasulu, Additional SP Mahesh Meghannavar, DSP Shankargouda Patil, CPI SC Patil and others rushed to the spot. Officials suspected old rivalry for the murder. They formed a special team to nab the culprits. The team gathered CCTV footage of the vehicular movements of the town. A search operation was launched for miscreants in neighbouring districts.
The horrific murder has shocked the city residents.
