Hubballi: The members of Karnataka Rajya Nekar Seva Sangha staged a protest here seeking fulfilment of their various demands.
At KC Circle, the protesters staged a dharna for sometime. Later, they went to Hubballi Circuit House and petitioned textiles minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa. After receiving a memorandum from them, the minister discussed the issues and grievances faced by them.
Sangha president Shivalinga Tiraki put forth the demands of weavers, including the one on treating weavers on a par with construction labours to provide them facilities. “There are many long-pending demands of weavers. The government should address them immediately as the weaving community is facing hardship,” he added.
Tiraki also sought waiver of loans availed by weavers from multi-state cooperative societies, and appealed to the minister to provide free electricity to weavers. tnn
