7 appear in court for exchanging Rs 3.75 crore illegally

HYDERABAD: Sleuths from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday produced Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer

K Sudheer Babu

in court in the Rs 3.75 cr demonetization scam. His office assistants, G Ravi Teja, K Suresh Kumar and G Srinivas, along with Sk Abdul

Ghani

, Nithin and

Narasimha Reddy

were also produced, after five days of custodial questioning.

During the interrogation, Babu, senior superintendant of post offices, Hyderabad, confessed that he approached Ghani directly once the government started exchanging demonetized notes at post offices. “The IPoS officer got `36 lakh given to him by Ghani exchanged for Rs 2,000 notes at

Himayathnagar

sub-post office.“ Babu did not collect his quota of 20% commission from Ghani as he knew him personally, but he kept the new cash with him for a few days and showed it to the other two accused, Nitin and Narasimha Reddy, so that they would believe in him and get new clients.

“Nitin and Reddy indeed believed in the IPoS officer's capabilities after they saw huge amounts of new cash in the latter's possession in the second week of November,“ said a CBI source.
