Blank cheques, threats and humiliation: Couple, son die by suicide in Hyderabad; 4 arrested
HYDERABAD: Nearly a week after a couple and their son died by suicide in Amberpet, police have arrested four money lenders on charges of abetment.
Police said the accused — residents of Moula Ali — Mohammed Wasi Uz Zaman, P Rajasekhara Reddy, Mohammed Nawaz and Syed Majeed Hyder — were booked under section 108 of the BNS.
On Feb 24, Kadgekar Ramraj, 54, his wife Madhavi and their son Kadgekar Shashank Raj were found dead at their residence. In her complaint, Ramraj's daughter alleged that it was a suicide pact, stating that her parents and brother took the extreme step due to harassment by financiers who were pressuring her father to repay loans.
"During investigation, suicide notes were recovered from the scene which mentioned about the harassment of illegal financiers, forcing them to die by suicide," Amberpet police said.
According to police, the deceased had borrowed ₹57 lakh from the accused and had opened hotels at Mallapur and Chakripuram. The lenders allegedly collected high interest on a daily basis.
"The accused allegedly obtained blank cheques, promissory notes and original land documents. They also repeatedly threatened and humiliated the deceased over phone. The accused threatened to visit their house to insult the deceased publicly," police said.
Call data records
As part of the probe, police examined call data records to verify whether the accused had contacted the family hours before the alleged suicide pact.
Officers said they seized around 12 blank cheques issued by the deceased, six blank promissory notes, memorandums of understanding, mortgage-cum-loan agreements, and documents related to three acres of agricultural land at Gandamalla village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
