Gold jewellers in state laud new BIS norm

Hyderabad: With less than a fortnight left for BIS’ new six-digit alphanumeric hallmark unique identification (HUID) number for jewellery to kick in (April 1), gold jewellers across Telangana, including the twin cities, have not raised any objections. In fact, most of them welcomed the new norm.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), branch head and Scientist-F K V Rao told TOI: “The gold jewellers are welcoming the new norm. Till date, we did not receive even a single objection on the implementation of it.”
“Business will not be hit due to the new HUID norm. Instead, we are hoping for huge sales not only in the ongoing festive season, but also on Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on April 22,” an Abids-based gold jewellery merchant stated. tnn
