Hyderabad Unveils India’s First Mobile Anti-Drone Vehicle to Boost Security Measures

India still lacks a unified database of civilian drones, making real-time identification and monitoring extremely difficult, said Indrajaal Drone Defence founder Kiran Penumacha.

He was speaking at the unveiling of his company’s mobile counter-drone patrol vehicle, designed to operate while on the move.

He noted that the vehicle is India’s first homegrown system capable of intercepting hostile drones without needing to halt. The platform combines sensors, AI and response tools that work in motion, giving security teams flexibility and faster reaction time.

According to the firm, the technology has already been deployed in active operations by defence and national security agencies. These field tests, they say, prove the system’s capability to respond to live drone threats across different environments.

During trials with the armed forces, the prototype reportedly brought down 40 drones in six days and helped uncover drugs worth ₹70 crore. The company says the results demonstrated its ability to counter repeated incursions under real-world conditions.

Unlike fixed anti-drone setups that must remain stationary, this vehicle scans the sky, identifies targets and initiates neutralisation while travelling. Penumacha said this mobility allows teams to cover wider areas and respond instantly to emerging threats.

He emphasised that without a central database of registered drones, authorities struggle to tell friendly devices from unauthorised ones. A unified registry, he said, would allow faster verification and prevent confusion during security operations.

The vehicle’s sensors can detect drone activity within a 10-kilometre radius, enabling monitoring from a distance without drawing attention. This range gives it the ability to observe movement around villages, borders or restricted zones discreetly.

Penumacha said the purpose behind developing the platform is to protect sensitive regions and prevent drone-based dangers before they cause harm. The system aims to secure land, support security personnel and strengthen national defence preparedness.

The system can cyber-take over many drones and bring them down safely beside the vehicle. Those resistant to takeover can be electronically disabled or engaged by interceptor drones, allowing layered responses depending on the threat type.
