Migrant kiln worker kills pregnant wife near Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A brick kiln worker from Odisha was allegedly killed by her drunk husband in Medchal on Thursday night. At the time of her death, the victim was two months pregnant. Kousalya, 20, was hit with a brick by her husband B Punji, 23, in their hut near the brick kiln at Gowdavelly.
She collapsed and was rushed by other workers to a hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Her mother Hemokanthi, who was also hit with the brick by the accused, suffered a bleeding injury on her head.
Punji, Kousalya and Hemokanthi joined as workers at the brick kiln run by Y Mahesh. At around 10 pm on Thursday, Mahesh received a phone call from worker Dharma informing him about Punji beating up his wife and her mother in an inebriated condition. “Punji is an alcoholic and used to harass his family. On Thursday night, he came home drunk and picked up an argument with Kousalya. In a fit of rage, he attacked Kousalya and her mother with the brick. Kousalya fell unconscious after she was hit on the head,” Mahesh said.
Soon after she fell unconscious, Punji brought her out of the hut. Mahesh along with other workers rushed her to the hospital where she succumbed. Hemokanthi is out of danger. Medchal police registered a murder case and took the accused into custody. TNN
