Srinivas, Appoorwa reign supreme; Double for Jaswanth, Varsha triumphs
HYDERABAD: K Srinivas of IOCL came from a game down to pip MA Hakeem of BSNL 11-25, 25-13, 25-24 in the men's singles final of the 6th Late Sri VA Sarma & Smt V Indiramba Memorial Telangana State Ranking Carrom tournament.
In a closely fought match that stretched up to 9th Board of the third game, Srinivas, who was a game down, fought back to take the second game at 25-13. In the third game, the 9th Board had to be played as the scores in the 8th Board were 24-24. Srinivas won the toss and with a good break, took the game and match to pocket the title.
The women's title was won by veteran S Appoorwa of LICI, who defeated C Kartika Varsha of NASR 25-13, 15-10. Kartika Varsha, however, had the satisfaction of winning the Junior girls' title. She defeated K Nandini of AWASA 18-9, 22-4. Nandini was no match for Varsha’s pocketing and lost the final tamely.
B Jaswanth Kumar of AWASA bagged the Junior and Sub-Junior boys' singles titles. Jaswanth Kumar trounced Avinash also from AWASA 25-8, 21-7 to win the Sub-Junior boys’ title. He completed a double by overcoming a fighting Sai Eashwar of V-10 25-8, 7-25, 25-9 to lay his hands on the Junior title.
