Students get a sneak peek into culture and heritage of Punjab

Visakhapatnam: After AP was paired with Punjab under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, a cultural team from the north Indian state has been visiting several city colleges for cultural exchange in the spheres of language, literature, cuisine, festivals and tourism.

The Punjab team has already visited Mrs AVN college, BVK college, Krishna college and government women’s college in the city in the last one week. While the team, led by Jagjeet Singh, performed bhangra dance during its visit to AVN college recently, a Burrakatha party from Draksharamam in East Godavari district gave a peek into the popular oral storytelling technique of Andhra Pradesh to the Punjab team. N Srinivasa Mahesh, assistant director, regional outreach bureau, said a team from AP will soon visit Punjab. “The initiative will help showcase the rich heritage, culture, customs and traditions of the two states and help students and other segments of the society understand and appreciate the country’s diversity besides fostering a sense of common identity,” said Mahesh.

He added that an activity calendar was being prepared through mutual consultation for a yearlong process of mutual engagement.
