Telangana: T Jagga Reddy firm on quitting Congress, seniors try to pacify
HYDERABAD: The purported resignation did not happen on Saturday but Sangareddy MLA T Jagga Reddy has decided to call it quits from the Congress.
The firebrand Congress working president, who was supposed to resign from the party on Saturday, said his decision to leave the party was final.
"As a mark of respect to senior party leaders, I did not resign on February 19. But my decision is final. I will send my resignation from the party membership and TPCC working president post in a few days to Sonia Gandhi and other leaders in the state," Jagga Reddy said.
However, Jagga Reddy was evasive if he would resign from his MLA post which he won on a Congress ticket. Sources close to him said he would continue as an MLA after quitting the Congress and would work independently until he floats a new party.
He said he had already informed the party leadership of his decision to bid goodbye to the party. "Despite sincerely working to strengthen the party, some vested interests are trying to brand me as a 'covert' of TRS. I am deeply hurt and do not want to stay in the party," Jagga Reddy told STOI. "The moment my resignation letter is released, I will not be associated with Congress any more," he said.
Party seniors N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and AICC secretary Srinivasan Krishnan are trying to persuade Jagga Reddy not to leave. TPCC general secretary Bollu Kishan touched Jagga's feet urging him not to resign. TPCC president A Revanth Reddy dismissed the resignation of Jagga Reddy as a storm in the teacup. He told newspersons that minor differences, if any, among leaders in the party would be sorted out. He was in Medaram on Saturday after paying his obeisance to Sammakka and Sarakka. There have been differences between Jagga and a few leaders, especially Revanth, which seem to have escalated in the last few months.
