Jaipur: Maharani College girls on Friday burnt an effigy of Rajasthan University Student Union (RUSU) leaders outside the college premises protesting over the fight between the university president and general secretary in the presence of Union minister on Monday.
This is probably the first time that students from a constituent college of RU have protested against the university's student union.
Mansi Verma, president of Maharani College student union, along with other student leaders of the college protested against the “hooliganism and indecent behaviour” during the inaugural function of the college’s student union office on Monday.
“Despite Maharani College being the biggest girls’ college in the state, such an incident took place here. Women were made to feel unsafe in their own college, and these student leaders talk about women’s safety. The whole university administration is also silent on the matter. Why no action is being taken against the general secretary and president and their supporters who were involved in the fight,” said Verma.
On Tuesday, Verma had released a video apologising to her college students for the disruption and raised the issue of women’s safety. Even during her speech at the event on Monday, Verma had raised the issue of women's safety in Rajasthan and had said that the state was turning into 'rapistan'.
