11-month-old girl among 2 Covid cases reported in JSR

JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur has reported two new Covid-19 cases - a 71-year-old woman and an 11-month-old girl. Both are undergoing treatment at Tata Motors Hospital.

"Both tested Covid-19 positive when they were admitted to the hospital on feeling unwell," said district surveillance officer (DSO), Dr Mohammed Asad on Wednesday.

"The infant and the elderly were admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever on December 16. Both are stable and don't have any travel history," Dr Asad added.'

The hospital authorities have been asked to preserve the samples of the patients for genome sequencing. The girl is a resident of Pursudih, while the elderly woman is a resident of Chota Govindpur.

The official said the test report of the patients had come on December 17 and health department was informed a day after.

The surveillance official has appealed to the residents to maintain respiratory hygiene. "The person suffering with cold and cough, in particular, should wear masks and avoid crowded places till he/she gets cured," Dr Asad said.

On Tuesday, pharmacies reported an uptick in the sale of masks as residents started wearing those. The government has sounded an alert over the possible rise in cases in the state.
