The incident occurred at Dumra village under the Ichagarh police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday night, police said.
On Saturday, Ichagarh police station in-charge Dinesh Thakur said the body of the deceased, identified as Rita Munda, was sent to the Seraikela sub-divisional hospital for autopsy.
'Jumbo destroyed six other homes'Her injured father, Krishna Munda, who is in his early 30s, is undergoing treatment at the MGM hospital.
The father-daughter duo was asleep when the elephant pulled down the mud wall of their house and they were buried under the debris.
Dumra village mukhiya Nayan Munda, who alerted the police following the mishap, said the elephant went on a rampage and destroyed six other houses in the village. "It was an adult elephant which got separated from its herd and wandered into the village," he said. Seemingly angry and panicked, the elephant went berserk destroying the houses, before it was chased away by the villagers.
