JAMSHEDPUR: The Delhi police have shifted Al-Qaeda convict, Abdul Sami, to the Gaghidih central jail in Jamshedpur. Sami was produced before the additional district and sessions judge, Sanjay Upadhyay, after which he was shifted to the Gaghidih jail on Saturday.
Convicted by a Delhi court on February 14, 2023, under sections 18 and 18(B) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Sami is wanted by the Jamshedpur police in connection with a case lodged against him under the UAPA with the Bistupur police station in 2016.
Sami is a resident of Dhatkidih under the Bistupur police station and was arrested by the Delhi police from Mewat in Haryana on January 19, 2016, on charges of having links with the Al Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative, Abdul Rahman Cuttacki, who was earlier arrested by the Delhi police from Cuttack in Odisha in December 2015.
The Delhi court convicted Abdul Rahman along with Md Asif, Zaffar Masood and Sami under the UAPA. All three are currently lodged at the Tihar jail in Delhi.
The Jharkhand ATS is currently investigating the Al-Qaeda links of Sami.
