JAMSHEDPUR: A 34-year-old reportedly succumbed to heatstroke at Karma village under Chhaterpur police station limits in Palamu district while a Class X student of Gurunanak High School at Sakchi in Jamshedpur fainted inside the classroom and was hospitalised on Thursday.
Chhaterpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar said, "Family members of the deceased, Ajay Yadav, told police that he reportedly died of heatstroke. His body was found in a field near his house on Thursday." Ajay used to work all day in the intense heat without drinking adequate water. He used to consume alcohol, sources said.
The officer-in-charge of the Chhaterpur police station, Shekhar Kumar, said, "The family of the deceased insisted on a post-mortem examination. Hence, we have sent the body to the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Daltonganj for an autopsy."
Dr R K Ranjan of MMCH said, "Shock, dehydration, low blood pressure, and dryness of skin among others are symptoms of heatstroke. The viscera of the deceased will be preserved for forensic tests."
