JAMSHEDPUR: In the wake of dengue cases being reported from the city, the district administration has announced to impose a penalty of Rs 1,000 on the owner if dengue larvae is found at his premises.
The penalty will be imposed in accordance with the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by DC Manjunath Bhajantri this week, said district surveillance officer Dr Mohammed Asad.
Asad has appealed to people to call helpline numbers (9304389995, 9431857671) in containing the vector-borne disease.
He said in the last two weeks, dengue cases have been reported from different parts of the urban circle, which is the command area of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC). The official said as the monsoon proceeds there's a possibility of increase in dengue cases in the urban area, adding therefore, the additional measures are being taken. In July, dengue cases were largely reported from the peripheral and rural areas but in August residential areas in Telco, Golmuri, Jugsalai, Baridih and Mango have reported dengue cases.
The district health department has conducted a survey of 2.7 lakh houses in the district and found dengue larvae in 7,237 houses so far. With more than 200 dengue cases having been reported till Saturday, the Urban Livelihood Mission (ULM) volunteers, sevikas and sahayikas have been roped in to carry out mass awareness to control dengue, the health official said.
The health department has directed the civic body officials to carry out anti-larval spray at the sites where dengue cases are found without delay.
The civic body officials have been asked to prevent waterlogging in public places as the district is experiencing rain almost daily. Besides, municipal officials will inspect construction sites to remove debris that are potential breeding ground of dengue larvae. The health department has issued a fresh advisory asking people to use mosquito nets. Currently, samples of 35 dengue suspects are being examined at the microbiology department of MGMMCH.
