Jharkhand: Man killed in Sonari, BJP raises concern over rising crime graph
JAMSHEDPUR: A man in his thirties was shot dead in broad daylight in the posh Sonari west colony on Friday morning, following which the opposition BJP has targeted the Hemant Soren government for the “deteriorating law and order” in Steel City.
The victim, Ajay Shah alias Tinku, a money lender and resident of Khutadih under the Sonari police station, was shot dead by miscreants while he was on his way home after dropping his child at school. Shau stopped by a roadside shop to buy some items when four youths, who came on bikes, started talking to him and opened fire at point-blank range, killing him on the spot, eyewitnesses said.
Hearing the gunshots, the locals ran helter and skelter during which the miscreants fled.
Soon after the incident, a police team led by SP (city) Vijay Shankar rushed to the spot and found six empty cartridges from the spot. Shankar said business rivalry could be the reason behind the killing. He said an investigation into the incident has started and CCTV footage from the area has been collected to identify and trace the killers.
The SP further said the police were confident of identifying and arresting the killers soon. Meanwhile, Shah’s body was sent for a post-mortem.
Commenting on the incident, BJP senior leader and former district president, Devender Singh, said criminal activities like murder, loot, chain snatching and burglary have become routine in most parts of the state, including Jamshedpur.
He said the fear of police among the criminals, who have political patronage, has disappeared and the common man feels unsafe. Devender further said anti-social elements are also running drug dens within the city right under the nose of the police, who have no power to stop them.
Devender also said BJP would intensify its stir if the government fails to control the rising crime graph in the city.

Please prevent my city from going to the dogs! We need an atmosphere where everyone feels safe. Police has a big role in controlling the situation, which clearly they are not able to do! Focus should shift from collecting bribes for the politician to safeguarding the city. Clearly a change in Government is needed!Read allPost comment
