JAMSHEDPUR: Residents of East Singhbhum district aren’t showing keenness to take Covid precautionary/booster dose. The vaccination data of the district health department suggests that in the age group of 18-59 years, only one per cent of the targetted beneficiaries have taken the booster dose in the urban circle, and below one per cent in the rural areas.

In the three urban local bodies of Jamshedpur, Mango, and Jugsalai, 8,659 beneficiaries have taken the booster dose till Monday. The target beneficiaries count is 6,89,806 in the 18-59 age group in the urban circle.

The inoculation data of the rural areas, comprising the 10 blocks of Baharagora, Chakulia, Ghatshila, Dumaria, Dhalbhumgarh, Potka, Patamda, Gurabanda, Boram, and Musaboni, suggest that booster dose vaccination is yet to achieve even one per cent. The beneficiaries count in each of the 10 blocks varies from a minimum of 41,946 in Dhalbhumgarh to a maximum of 1,35,198 in Potka.

In the category of targetted population above the age of 60 years, 35% have taken the precaution dose in the urban circle, and between one per cent and 20 per cent in the 10 rural blocks.

Expressing concern at “30 per cent of the health workers not having taken the precautionary dose yet”, chief medical officer-cum-civil surgeon Jujhar Majhi asked the eligible beneficiaries to take the booster dose on a priority basis in the wake of abrupt jump in the Covid numbers in the district. “Vaccination is an important tool to fight the virus,” he added.
