KANPUR: A student (27) of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) has alleged rape by an ACP, who was studying cybercrime and criminology at the institute.

An FIR was registered on Thursday following her complaint and the ACP was attached to police headquarters in Lucknow. DCP Ankita Sharma said, "An FIR under various BNS sections, including 64 (rape), was filed against the ACP at the Kalyanpur police station of the city."

IIT-K director Manindra Agrawal said, "The institute is committed to providing necessary support to the student in this difficult time. We are thankful to the city police for its quick action."

The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
