KANPUR: A couple in love allegedly died after consuming poison in Kanpur Dehat district on Monday. The deceased were identified as Umesh Jatav (18) and Kumkum Rathore (18) of Nandana village under Sikandara police station of the district. The bodies of two were found in the fields in the outskirts of the village on Monday morning, station house officer Sikandara, Ram Govind Mishra said.
An empty bottle of poison was recovered from the spot, he added. According to police, the couple died after consuming some poisonous substance. Mishra, however, said the exact cause of death could only be known after the post mortem report comes. Their bodies were returned to their family members after the post mortem. In its preliminary investigation, police found that the two deceased were in love with each other.
The youth, who was pursuing B.Sc from a local degree college, besides the girl had left their homes as per their family members during the early hours of Monday. “Later, they reached a desolate spot in the village outskirts and apparently resorted to extreme steps by consuming poisonous substance. Further investigations are underway,” said the police. tnn
