Sishamau bypoll: Five of 11 nominations rejected

Kanpur: Five out of 11 nominations for the Sishamau bypoll were rejected on technical grounds during the scrutiny on Monday.Now, six candidates —Nasim Solanki from Samajwadi Party, Virendra Kumar from Bahujan Samaj Party, Suresh Awasthi from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ashok Paswan and Mohd Aftab Shareef from Sabhijan Party and Rashtriya Jantantrik Party, respectively and Krishna Kumar Yadav, an independent candidate, are in fray for the Sishamau seat. During the scrutiny, the nomination papers of Chand Babu, Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Khursheeda Solanki, Gaurav Bajpai, and Satnam Singh were rejected. As per the notification, the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is Oct 30, and after that the number of candidates willing to contest will be finalized.Meanwhile, the BJP, SP and the BSP candidates have started their election campaigns and are traversing their constituency locality-wise. They are meeting with voters and attempting to persuade them in their favor.SP candidate Naseem Solanki, on the very next day after her nomination, visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah to offer ‘chadar' and pray for her success. Offering ‘chadar' at the dargah is a custom of the Solanki family. Haji Mushtaq Solanki, who had been elected as an MLA from this seat twice, had initiated this custom. Ahead of both his victories he had gone to Ajmer Sharif Dargah to fulfil this tradition on the very next day after filing his nomination. His son, Irfan, who had been elected as MLA four times, also continued this custom by visiting Ajmer Sharif on the next day of filing nomination every time.
