KANPUR: The security has been stepped up for the president of Kanpur’s Sufi Khanqah Association, Mohammad Kausar Hasan Majeedi, three days after he received back-to-back threats to his life for condemning the Udaipur incident and launching a tirade against Dawat-e-Islami.

Majeedi, who had sent a complaint to the CM office in 2021 regarding a probe into the operations of Dawat-e-Islami in Kanpur, had on Thursday received a phone call threatening him of dire consequence. Similarly, on Saturday, he had again received another threat through a YouTube channel, in which a Pakistani national Asif Ashraf Jalali made objectionable remarks on India and PM Narendra Modi. Majeedi was also threatened by Jalali.

Seeking police action, Majeedi had lodged a complaint at the Juhi police station. Besides, he had also asked district officials to provide him a security cover. “We have deployed two police personnel at Majeedi’s residence-cum-office after he filed a complaint about the threat on his mobile phone and through a Youtube channel and simultaneously sought security cover,” ACP Babupurwa Alok Kumar Singh said.

The ACP further said that both the cases are being investigated. “Cyber cell and surveillance team has also been engaged for a breakthrough,” ACP added.
