Kochi: In a case of suspected
murder, a 35-year-old man was found dead at his friend's house at Munnoorppilly near Angamaly on Thursday morning. Police said he was allegedly beaten up by a gang of goons on Wednesday evening, and the injuries sustained in the attack could have led to his
death.
The deceased was identified as Raghu of Angamaly. According to police, he had reached Sujith's house late on Wednesday.
Raghu purportedly told Sujith that he got beaten up in the evening. He went to sleep only to be found dead in the morning.
Police sources said, as per preliminary investigation, the victim was attacked by a gang involved in goonda activities led by one Satheesh. The accused had allegedly stocked illegally brewed arrack in a rented building. The gang is suspected to have attacked the victim, believing that he and his friends stole the arrack, said police.
Police have also found out that two others who were friends with Raghu were assaulted earlier on Wednesday before he was attacked. He was reportedly by the gang, said police. A complaint was not filed even as the victim was let go by the gang after the assault.
Angamaly police have registered an FIR and begun an investigation to track down Satheesh and his gang. Police on Thursday searched Satheesh's friend's house after getting information that he had gone there after the attack. Two airguns and a car reportedly used by Satheesh were found at the house, said police.
During the day, senior police officers and forensic experts inspected Sujith's house. The body had injury marks. Police are awaiting autopsy report to confirm the cause of death.
