Syro-Malabar Church flags fake campaigns against FCRA

Kochi: Syro-Malabar Church on Friday said in a social media post that campaigns being conducted using photos of the major archbishop and the Church spokesperson in connection with FCRA amendment bill were completely false and malicious.The Church's media commission also shared the fake posters, using major archbishop's photo with a fake quote attributed to him. The spokesperson's photo too is placed adjacent to a fake statement.No such opinion or discussion has taken place at any level of Syro-Malabar Church, the post said. The public has the wisdom and vigilance to ignore such false campaigns aimed at disrupting religious harmony in our country, said the Church's post.Church spokesperson Fr Tom Olikkarott had earlier said that there were attempts to misconstrue the protests of Christian communities against the proposed FCRA amendment bill by linking it to accounts.When a serious issue like constitutional violation behind the move is addressed, such false narratives are created to neutralise the objections and silence the Church, he said.
