BEHRAMPORE: Relatives of a patient assaulted an on-duty doctor and nurse and vandalized furniture at the Shaktipur block primary health centre on Thursday night.
The injured doctor, Anupam Mondal, said: “One patient, Murshida Bibi, came in with pain in the abdomen. Considering her condition and infrastructure at the BPHC, we referred her to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in case her situation deteriorated at night.

But the patient party abruptly attacked us. We are traumatized.”
When nurse Radharani Dey tried to save herself, the relatives allegedly entered her room, kicked her from the chair and assaulted her.
Both Mondal and Dey have been shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Mondal has injury on his chest and back, while Dey is critical following heavy bleeding after repeated kicks in her abdomen.
An FIR was lodged at Shaktipur police station against Nijamuddin Seikh, Subha Seikh, Burhan Hossein, Kaji Jasimuddin and Samima Yasmin. Four of them were arrested.
Doctors’ forum IMA took the incident seriously and its state assistant secretary Ranjan Bhattacharya spoke to district police chief K Shabari Rajkumar demanding proper action.
