NEW DELHI: A government employee stabbed his four colleagues with a knife following a tiff over the time off at a West Bengal government office in Newtown on Thursday, police said.
The accused, Asit Sarkar, an employee of the technical education department at Karigori Bhavan, was arrested by Techno City police under the Bidhannagar commissionerate.
According to police, Sarkar is a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas, got into an argument with his colleague and in a fit of rage, he attacked them with a knife before attempting to flee.
"Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, works in the technical education department. This morning, following a tiff with his colleagues over taking time off, he attacked them with a knife and then tried to flee. We have arrested him," a police officer said.
The victims, identified as Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul, were injured, with two in critical condition.
Several videos surface in online space claiming that the alleged attacker was seen on road with blood-stained knife.
"Sarkar was seen running through the streets of New Town with the knife. We are investigating the incident to determine the exact motive behind his actions," a police officer said.
