KOLKATA: A rural hospital will be named after Swapnadip Kundu, the JU fresher who died on August 10. CM Mamata Banerjee, who met the teenager's grieving parents in Nabanna on Monday, said they will get justice for the death of their son.
Banerjee spent an hour with the parents - Swapna and Rama Prasad Kundu - trying to comfort them as Swapna broke down repeatedly.
The CM assured the parents and other relatives, along with some alumni association members of the Bagula High School where Swapnadip studied, that there will be proper justice.
The parents were at the CM's chamber for around an hour on Monday afternoon and later they said that they were happy with the progress of the probe.
The CM expressed her concern and conveyed that she wanted to rename the Bagula rural health centre - close to the residence of the family in Nadia's Bagula where the victim lived - after Swapnadip.
"We came to the CM as we wanted justice for the death of our son. We want exemplary punishment of the killers because of whom our son died. The CM has assured that none will be spared, so with the hope that justice. We are returning home with the hope that justice will be delivered. She assured us of taking responsibility of our younger son's education and of our security," said Rama Prasad.
Swapna could not control her tears on several occasions and kept asking why Swapnadip was killed.
Alumni association secretary of Bagula High School Saumitra Ghosh, who accompanied the parents, urged the CM to make campuses ragging free. He also asked for a speedy trial so the accused can be punished soon.
Earlier, the CM had sent a Trinamool team that included higher education minister Br-atya Basu to the student's home to console his parents.
