Kolkata: Mangalam Vidya Niketan has joined the global shift toward cleaner energy with the installation of rooftop solar panels. This marks the first time a school in North Kolkata has adopted such an initiative.
The photovoltaic system converts sunlight directly into electricity, reducing electricity bills, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable energy use. Excess energy produced is fed back into the grid, helping to reduce strain on infrastructure during peak hours.
The panels are highly adaptable and low-maintenance, requiring only occasional cleaning to remove dust or debris, and they offer a lifespan of more than 25 years—making them a durable, eco-friendly investment for the institution.
The students have been taught that solar energy is a clean, green source that produces no greenhouse gas emissions or air pollution; inspired by this awareness, they have prepared several projects on the new and upcoming topic.
