LUCKNOW: The Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSSMU) administration on Saturday suspended a final year MBBS student and debarred him from appearing in the next examination after he was arrested by police alleging his involvement in a seat fixing racket.
The student identified as Neeraj Kumar was taken into the custody by a team of Kolkata police who visited the state capital on Friday, after Neeraj's name came into light regarding his involvement in a racket in which students faking their identities used to appear in medical entrance examinations in West Bengal for others in return for a hefty sum.

According to the senior police officials of Chowk police station Neeraj was arrested on charges that he appeared in a medical entrance examination held in Kolkata faking his identity for one Saurabh Das of Kolkata after taking Rs 40,000 from him.
The Kolkata police on Saturday took the arrested student to Kolkata on a transit remand for investigating the matter further. Kolkata police is also suspecting his involvement in the seat fixing racket which was busted last year in West Bengal.
During that time the police had also arrested two girls identified as Babli Kazmi and Ruby Mazumdar of Varanasi who were involved in the seat fixing racket. That was the first occasion when girls' involvement had come to light in a racket like this.
