Officials to be held responsible for revenue cases delays: Yogi
Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to accord the highest priority to the speedy and transparent disposal of revenue-related cases, asserting that disputes linked to land and revenue directly impact common citizens, farmers’ interests and social harmony.
Reviewing the progress of pending cases in revenue courts, Yogi said that unnecessary delays in such matters would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He instructed that accountability be fixed on officers and employees responsible for cases remaining pending beyond the prescribed time limit and appropriate action be ensured against them.
The CM stressed that the efficiency of revenue courts should be strengthened further through technology-driven systems, accountability and time-bound procedures so that citizens receive speedy justice. He directed officials to launch special drives for disposal of cases pending beyond the stipulated period and said regular reviews must be conducted at tehsil and district levels. Districts showing poor performance should be held accountable, he added.
During the meeting, officials told the CM that a significant reduction was achieved in pending cases under Section 80 through the RCCMS portal. While 85,158 cases were pending as of Jan 1, 2026, the number declined to 38,166 by May 22, 2026. In the same period, 29,543 cases were disposed of. The number of cases pending for more than three months has also steadily decreased.
Basti, Chitrakoot, Ayodhya, Baghpat and Kannauj recorded better performance in disposal of Section 80 cases, while Meerut, Varanasi, Amethi, Gautambudhnagar and Hapur were found lagging behind. The CM instructed officials to undertake special campaigns in these districts for early disposal of pending matters.
Divisional commissioners and district magistrates, who attended the meeting through video conferencing, were instructed to ensure disposal of pending cases within a fixed time frame in their respective jurisdictions.
Yogi said the functioning of the revenue administration should be such that it further strengthens public trust and ensures that people do not have to wait unnecessarily for justice.
