LUDHIANA: In a shocking incident, a man hacked his friend to death and later cut his body into ten pieces and threw it into a canal. All this was done to grab Rs 25,000 that the victim was carrying with him.
The incident came to light when the accused confessed his crime in front of a friend, who was also known to the deceased and his family. The friend further contacted the victim’s family and told them about the crime, following which a police complaint was lodged. The Ludhiana police on Monday recovered one leg and one arm of the victim from Sidhwan Canal near Pakhowal road.
The deceased has been identified as Islam, 30, of Jalalabad,

police have lodged an FIR against the accused identified as Mohammad
Mehfooz
of Guru Gobind
Singh Nagar
, Tibba area of Ludhiana. Mehfooz is a street vendor who hails from Shamli of Uttar Pradesh.
Inspector Ranbir Singh, SHO at police station Tibba, said that Islam used to visit Ludhiana to buy readymade garments which he used to sell at his hometown. He had come to Ludhiana on April 18 and stayed at his friend Mohammad Mehfooz's house in Tibba area. When Mehfooz came to know that Islam was carrying Rs 25,000 cash he wanted to grab the money. The accused hacked him to death in his sleep with a sharp edged weapon on April 18. He then cut the body in ten parts with a saw and dumped it in the canal near Shimlapuri after stuffing it in different gunny bags.
SHO added, “The accused recently confessed his crime in front of his friend
Mohammad Naved, who was also known to Islam’s family. Naved further informed Islam’s family and thereafter the police were informed. The police have arrested the accused and lodged a murder case against him.”
The complainant Mehboob also stated that when they had lost contact with Islam, he had called Mohammad Mehfooz to know about Islam’s whereabouts as they knew that Islam used to stay with Mehfooz during his visits to Ludhiana. However, Mehfooz told him that Islam had left the house on April 19.
The inspector further added that the police are trying to recover the rest of the body parts of the victim. The accused has also misled the police initially by saying that he had dumped the body parts in Buddha Nullah.
The victim is survived by his wife and two children.
