Organs of brain dead man donated

Madurai: Organs of a 44-year-old man from Ramanathapuram were harvested at Govt Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai on Tuesday.
A Ignatius, of Karkathakudi, was injured after the two-wheeler he was riding hit a four-wheeler near Aravayal at Devakottai in Sivaganga district on Oct 20. He suffered head injuries and was taken to Sivaganga Govt Medical College Hospital. He was later referred to GRH and was admitted to the ICU. Despite treatment, Ignatius was declared brain dead in the early hours of Tuesday.
Ignatius' wife came forward to donate his organs. GRH doctors harvested his kidneys, cornea and skin. One of the kidneys and the cornea were allotted to GRH itself while the other kidney was allotted to Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College Hospital, Perambalur. His skin was to Grace Kennett Foundation Hospital in Madurai.
The Ramanathapuram district administration gave state honours to Ignatius' body.
