Madurai: BJP national co-in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Sudhakar Reddy, on Thursday accused the DMK govt of prioritising ‘family interests and vote bank politics' over governance.
Campaigning for AIADMK candidate Sundar C (Madurai Central) and BJP candidate Raama Sreenivasan (Madurai South), Reddy alleged that the ruling party was ‘provoking sentiments' to secure votes. "DMK is a family-oriented rule. They keep raising issues — north versus south, Centre versus state, governor versus CM, language and Thirupparankundram disputes — only to garner votes through vote bank politics," he said.
Describing Sundar C as a ‘young, dynamic Mr Clean,' he claimed the sitting MLA faced allegations including a house tax scam in Madurai corporation. Reddy further alleged that Tamil Nadu was under a ‘katta panchayat' (kangaroo court) style of governance. "DMK has three faces — scams, including liquor-related issues; widespread corruption; and family rule," he said.
Responding to chief minister M K Stalin's remark that the election was a contest between Tamil Nadu and Delhi, Reddy said, "He is speaking out of frustration, sensing defeat. Ultimately, it is for the people to decide."
