12 MITE women students complete DGCA remote pilot certification

Mangaluru: As many as 12 female students of Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodbidri, have completed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-approved Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) training programme.

Apoorva PS, Esha, Keerthi K, Moulya CM, Nidaa M, Prajna KH, Shrivaishnavi, Sinchana PD, Thanvi UK, Varsha R Rai, Varshitha and Yashwitha are the students who completed the training.

The training was organised by VTU–R&D (Aerospace, Defence and Allied Programs) with NeoSky India Ltd., a DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO). The seven-day programme, held recently, was offered free of cost and valued at around Rs 1 lakh per participant.

Of the 25 female students selected by VTU from engineering colleges across Karnataka, 12 were from MITE.

Students received both theoretical and practical training in drone regulations, aviation safety, airspace management, meteorology, maintenance procedures and flight operations. They also gained hands-on flying experience and completed DGCA-prescribed assessments.

A release from the institute stated that the certification equips students with industry-recognised skills and enhances their employability in the rapidly growing drone sector, including aerial surveying and mapping, precision agriculture, infrastructure inspection, logistics, disaster management, media and cinematography, and defence applications.

Dr Manjunath SV, head of the department of aeronautical engineering at MITE, said that the certification is not merely an additional qualification but a career-enabling credential. This certification, valid for 10 years, provides students with a long-term professional advantage.
